The weather wasn’t good but the bowls was still top class and very entertaining when the annual clash between Bowls England and the Welsh Bowling Association took place at our rink in June.
The England team were drawn from thirteen counties whilst the Welsh team came from a smaller pool of players but were just as competitive. The eventual result being a win for England by eight shots.
Hazel Marke, the President of Bowls England, was very generous when praising Cotswold Bowls Club for our facilities, the quality of the green, and the reception the players got throughout their visit. On arrival they were greeted at the door and invited to a buffet lunch. On completion of their match they enjoyed a cooked meal, which was well received after two hours of sunshine and showers.
One of the joys of our sport is the friendliness and good spirit that is always evident both during the match and afterwards when bowlers get together. Well done to all the players and officials, and to Cotswold Bowls Club for helping make this important fixture such a success.
