Joe Taylor - National Umpire

In Febuary 2016 i decided that i would like to put something back in to Bowling, Mike Manns was holding a Markers Course at Cotswold Indoor Bowls Club so i attended i found it very informative and found that there was Quite a lot that i did not know about the Laws of Bowling.

I passed the Certificate of Competence and decided to take it a step further so i joined the English Bowls Umpires Association and applied to take my Exam Days.

On the 24th June 2016 i attended a working assessment day at Fairford Bowls Club this went well I thought I was then Booked to attended another day on 1st July 2016 this went even better and i was then assessed by Allan Taylor who found that i was competent to act as an EBUA Marker.

For the next Two years I marked at Regional Games ,I also helped with the Visually Impaired National Finals at Royal Leamington Spa, This really brought it home to me how they were dedicated Bowlers and that they were Bowling to a piece of string stretched up the full length of the rink they really deserve all the help and admiration one can give.

I Marked at The Nationals at Royal Leamington Spa in 2017 and again in 2018.

In Early 2017 I decided that I would like to further my Knowledge of the Sport and decided to apply to take my Regional Umpire Course I completed my 100 Questions and then proceeded to take my Workshop and Examination this was held on Sunday 4th June 2017 at Madeira Bowls Club at Exmouth, this was a long Day but at the end I passed and became a Regional Umpire.

During the next 18 months I Marked and Umpired at a Number of Games and also at Leamington Spa I also helped Mike Manns with a number of Markers Courses.

In February of this Year 2019 i decided to further my ambition and go for my National Umpire Course on 14th February I passed my National Umpire Workbook I then booked a place for my Practical Workshop and Assessment at Westlecot IBC on the 23rd& 24th of March 2019 this was a two day course which i Passed and there fore i can now Umpire at National Level.

Its been quite a few years of swatting The Laws of the Sport but i have enjoyed it it is rewarding when you Umpire Games and see the quality of play and especially the VIBE playing.

Think about having a go it is rewarding, Regards Joe Taylor.
